Q&A
Your name Stevie Dix
Your current location Genk, Belgium
Your favorite pastime Any time spent with my husband and dog
Something you like All animals
Something you dislike Individualism. And mayonnaise
Your defining characteristic Highly emotional
What would someone close to you say is your defining characteristic Apparently: strong willed
Your favorite artist Charlotte Salomon
Favorite word or phrase Sorry. I like to say it, I like to hear it
What aspect of your work is most important to you Honesty. And that truth should change and evolve with me
Who do you admire the most and why My mother. She’s the most dedicated artist I know. Throughout my childhood, no matter how tough things were for her mentally or financially, she always had some sort of a studio set up in the house, sometimes it was just a desk, sometimes she only had an hour a week to make work… And even now, she’s had a debilitating stroke, she still works every day, overcoming emotional and physical limitations
Your worst habit Ebay. I sort cheapest first, but the quantity of clothes I buy every month is overwhelming
The first thing you think of in the morning Wish it was deeper; but coffee is the only thing I feel makes getting out of bed worth it, so I try and think about that
What have you always wanted to do and have not done Make a two-piece suit. My maternal grandparents were tailors and made everything they wore. A suit is like the pinnacle, my grandmother was in the middle of making herself a light blue pantsuit when she died. The skill was handed down but mine are a little rudimentary so I’d like to sit down and learn to make one properly
Your best decision Prioritizing art making even when it meant I had to leave behind structure or stability
Your worst decision I’m always full of regret but have learnt it’s important to set myself free. So, pass!
Your favorite street and why Rue de la régence in Brussels. Sentimental memories…
What has made you the person that you are A chaotic upbringing and low self-esteem
Something you treasure Artwork made by family and friends
What would the child you once were think of the adult you are now She’d be impressed that I have learnt to care for someone else
Your greatest fear Being misunderstood
